Applications
for the Snowline Joint Unified School District State Preschool Program are now
being accepted for the 2011/2012 school year.
State Preschool is available free of charge to eligible families of
preschool age children. Eligibility is determined by family income, family
size, and age of child. To be considered
for future enrollment, please call the Child and Family Services office at
(760)868-5817, ext. 7155. You will need
to know the gross monthly income (before deductions) for both parents/guardians
when calling the office. This
information is used to help determine priority rankings for all
applicants.
Families will be contacted according to their ranking for an
appointment to further establish eligibility and to begin the enrollment
process. Eligibility appointments for
children considered First Priority
will be made as space is available.
Eligibility appointments for children considered Second Priority will not be scheduled until after all eligible First Priority children have been
enrolled.

Frequently Asked
Questions:
How is Eligibility Determined?
The SJUSD State Preschool is available
free of charge to eligible families of preschool age children. Eligibility
is determined by family income, family size, and the age of the child.
Who Can Attend State Preschool?
Children who turn 4 years old on or before
December 2 of the upcoming school year are given first priority. Children who
turn 3 years old after December 2 may be enrolled if there are no 4 year old
students on the waiting list.
When and Where is the Program Offered?
The State Preschool program is offered
at Baldy Mesa, Heritage, Phelan, Pinon Hills, Vista Verde, and Wrightwood
Elementary School. Classes meet for 3 hours on all regular school
days. Morning and afternoon classes are offered at Baldy Mesa Elementary
School.
What Type of Documentation Will I Need To
Provide?
Applicants must provide documentation that demonstrates their
eligibility for the State Preschool Program. Some of the required
documentation includes but is not limited to:
1. Birth Certificate for each child listed in the family size
2. Income verification for all adults counted in the family size
3. Proof of residency
4. Proof of absence in the home for any parent listed on the birth
certificate who is not residing in the home.
When Will I Be Contacted?
When openings in the State Preschool program occur, families are contacted
according to their ranking for an eligibility appointment to further establish
eligibility and to begin the enrollment process.
Is My Child Guaranteed a Spot If They Are Placed On The District
Waiting List?
No. Children are enrolled in the
State Preschool program when openings in classrooms exist. It is possible that a family may not be
contacted by SJUSD for an eligibility appointment due to a number of
circumstances including:
1.
The family’s income exceeds the established eligibility criteria
2.
Current openings are filled with eligible First Priority children
3.
There are a significant number of eligible families (based on income,
family size, child’s age) that precede the family in question on the waiting
list and all current openings have been offered to those families with a higher
priority ranking
Your child must have a current
physical exam completed prior to attending the State Preschool Program (must
have been completed within the year at time of registration). A Physician’s
Report will need to be completed by your child’s doctor if you do not have a
current physical exam for your child.
